"L'ange de Nisida" ("The angel of Nisida"), is a four act opera by Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. He was one of the most famous #opera composers of his times and a leading figure in 19th-century Italian music, along with Giuseppe Verdi and Vincenzo Bellini.
"The Angel of Nisida" however, composed in 1830, never saw the light of the day. Since the opera's subject involved the Neapolitan King's having an affair with his mistress, Donizetti decided to premiere it in France,  at the "Theatre de la Renaissance", in Paris, in order to avoid censorship. However, the company went bankrupt before the premiere and the opera was never performed.
