Although Gioachino Rossini is one of the most performed opera composers, it’s only in recent years his more virtuosic and dramatic operas (otherwise known as opera seria) have moved to a higher rotation on our stages.
Rossini composed the following operas whilst residing in Naples between the years 1815 and 1822. At the time, Naples was considered a musical hub for some of the finest European musicians and he wrote with those virtuosi in mind.
