THE LYING LIFE OF ADULTS 

The novel opens amid the educated, affluent, and peaceable. Giovanna’s father is a teacher at a prestigious high school. Her mother teaches Greek and Latin and proofreads romance novels.

Giovanna descends from her home atop Naples’s highest hill to the industrial neighborhood where Vittoria lives, determined to discover the truth of her aunt’s estrangement.
