LIGURES BAEBIANI

The study presents the results of aerial-topographic survey carried out over Macchia di Circello (Benevento, Italy), an area which includes the remains of the municipium of the roman settlement Ligures Baebiani.

Mentions of the settlement are reported by Livy, who talks about its foundation in 180 a.C., when 47.000 defeted Ligurians, from Northen Italy, were moved into Samnium.

Thanks to an aerial-topographic survey, it was possible to understand the urban development of the ancient town and its size.
