HERESY, LAWBOOKS, AND THE INQUISITION IN THE KINGDOM OF NAPLES
Lodovico Carerio is mainly known for having published a treatise on criminal law in 1546 in Naples: Practica nova causarum criminalium.
The book includes chapters on the rules regarding the evidence that is required to justify the use of torture in an investigation, on the laws regulating the application of torture itself, and on the laws related to the crimes of homicide and assassination.
The book was republished several times, printed and circulated with another brief treatise, Carerio’s Tractatus de haereticis and indeed the subject of heresy was a relevant part of the kingdom’s criminal law.
